Marcellus was the Roman governor of Judea, from 36 CE to 37 CE, under Emperor Tiberius.
Biography
In 36 CE Marcellus succeeded Pontius Pilate as the Roman Prefect of Judea and Samaria. Marcellus deposed the powerful High Priest Caiaphas, only to replace him with another member of the House of <Annas>, his son Jonathan. No other noticeable event is recorded during his tenure. In 37 CE, the new Emperor Caligula appointed Marullus to take Marcellus' place.
