{ja} Kodomo no shiki / {en} Four Seasons of Children [1] (Japan, 1939), directed by Hiroshi Shimizu.

The brothers deal with declining family fortunes: they must work when the father becomes sick and dies, and eventually live with their grandfather, which means making new friends and struggling with a different environment. The boys are mostly oblivious to the controversy and drama surrounding the adults and only see how the issue affects their social lives.

A sequel of Children in the Wind (1937)

<Note - Seen in March 2023. Not bad (with some good moments about the everyday life of children), but not particularly impressive.>
