Little Women (Alcott)

So far the story has been adapted six times to the big screen (1917, 1918, 1933, 1949, 1994, 2019). The two adaptations made during the silent era, in 1917 and 1918 respectively, are both lost. The 1933 version was the the first "talkie," followed by the first color version in 1949. The 1994 and 2019 versions update the story to contemporary audiences.

Since 1939 the story has been often adapted for television. Some of the earliest TV adaptations are lost too, as they were broadcast live and not recorded.

The first TV miniseries was produced in 1951 (in England), followed by other miniseries in 1955 (in Italy) and in 1958, 1970 and 2017 (in England).

Three animated versions were made in the 1980s.

Two recent films have given the story a modern setting (2012, 2018).
