The Transfiguration of Jesus refers to an episode in the live of Jesus of Nazareth, as narrated in the Gospels of Mark (9:2–13), Matthew (17:1-13), and Luke (9:28-36).

Overview
The Transfiguration is located on the top of an unnamed mountain. Since the 4th century Mount Tabor has become the traditional site of the event. It is however very unlikely that this was the intended location of the narrative. The top of Mount Tabor was then occupied by a fortress and is quite distant from Caeserea Philippa where Jesus stayed with his disciples. Mount Hermon (or other location in Upper Galilee) provides a better alternative.

The traditional Christian iconography of the Transfiguration is that of an intimate mystical experience that involved Jesus and three of his disciples in a remote and solitary location. By including the Miracle of the Possessed Boy, Raphael and Peter Paul Rubens transformed the scene into a crowded public event.
