Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912) was a Dutch-born British artist.

Biography

Laurens Tadema was born January 8, 1836 at Dronrijp [Netherlands].

He entered the Royal Academy of Antwerp in 1852, and pursued a successful career as painter in England. He had friendship with several prominent scholars of the ancient world and traveled to Pompeii in 1863 to explore its ruins.

Tadema died June 25, 1912 at Wiesbaden [Germany].
