Evil-merodach (Amel-Marduk) was King of Babylon, from 562 to his assassination in 560 BCE.

Biography

Evil-merodach was the son and successor of king Nebuchadnezzar. He was murdered by his brother-in-law, Neriglissar, who succeeded him.

Evil-merodach and the Jews

Evil-merodach released the Davidic king Jehoiachin of Judah from prison, and let him join the other hostage kings at the court of Babylon.

[29] So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes. Every day of his life he dined regularly in the king’s presence. [30] For his allowance, a regular allowance was given him by the king, a portion every day, as long as he lived.
