Marcellus was the Roman governor of Judea, from 36 CE to 37 CE, under Emperor Tiberius.

Biography

In 36 CE the governor of Syria Vitellius removed Pontius Pilate from office and sent "his friend" Marcellus to take care of the affairs in Judea. Vitellius also deposed the powerful High Priest Caiaphas, and replaced him with another member of the House of <Annas>, Jonathan. In 37 CE, the new Emperor Caligula appointed Marullus as the new Prefect of Judea.
