This groundbreaking silent documentary captures the beauty and majesty of the New York City in its streets, skyscrapers, bridges, rail yards and harbors.

The intertitles include excerpts from the writings of Walt Whitman. The film was completely restored in January 2009. The Museum of Modern Art and Anthology Film Archives also commissioned a new score from New York composer Donald Sosin.
