Barry Dennen (b.1938) is an American singer and actor, with a long and successful career on stage and in television He created the role of Pontius Pilate for the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, first in the concept album (1970), then in the original Broadway cast (1971) and finally in the movie (1973). Over the years, he has reprised his role of Pilate in a variety of tours and anniversary productions of "Jesus Christ Superstar," frequently appearing with other original cast members (from both Broadway and the movie). In 2006, Dennen and his friends and co-stars Ted Neeley, Yvonne Elliman and Ben Vereen were joined by comedian Jack Black in a one-night only, sold-out performance at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre.
