Abstract

Giovanni Testori wrote Erodiade as a literary piece, a monologue of Herodias on the death of John the Baptist. In spite of its inclusion in the programs of the Piccolo Teatro of Milan in 1969 and 1970, the play was never performed. Testori revised it for performance in 1984 (as Erodiade), when it was staged by actress Adriana Innocenti (the role has been more recently reprised by Maria Paiato). Testori wrote another revised version of the piece shortly before his death (published posthumously as Erodiàs in 1994). This third version was first staged in 1998 by actor Sandro Lombardi and then in 2016 by actress Federica Fracassi.
