Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov (1844-1927) was a Russian artist. Born into a noble family, he studied simultaneously Law and Art in St. Petersburg. Traveled to Germany, Italy France and twice, to Palestine, being captivated by the landscape, architecture, and people of the land. Between 1886 and 1907 created dozens of works on the life of Jesus, based on his traveling experience.
