Albert Szenczi Molnár

Albert Szenczi Molnár (1574-1634) was a Hungarian scholar, Calvinist pastor, linguist, philosopher and poet. Translated the Book of Psalms metrically, according to the melodies of Goudimel and Bourgeois. Revised the translation of the Bible made by Gáspár Károli.

Biography

Szenczi Molnár was born in Szenc [Hungary] in 30. August 1574. Calvinist pastor, linguist, philosopher and poet. He studied theology at the Colleges and Universities of Wittenberg, Dresden, Heidelberg and Strassbourg. Translated the Book of Psalms metrically, according to the melodies of Goudimel and Bourgeois. Revised the translation of the Bible made by Gáspár Károli. (During his youth, Szenczi Molnár was a collaborator of Károli - he brought the leafs of the manuscript of the translation to the press.) He died in Kolozsvár/Clusenburg [Hungary] in 17. January 1634.
