Patricia Crone (b.1945) is a Danish scholar, active in the United Kingdom and the United States. She studied at the University of London, receiving her Ph.D. (1973) from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) under Bernard Lewis. After serving as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of London’s Warburg Institute (1973-76), she taught Islamic Studies at Oxford University (1977-90), and Cambridge University (1990-94). In 1994 she moved to the United States, being appointed at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton where she became Andrew W. Mellon professor in 1997.
