Edward Henry Palmer (1840-1882) was an English scholar.

Biography

Edward Henry Palmer was born August 7, 1840 in Cambridge, England.

After studying Oriental languages at the University of Cambridge, he travelled extensively in the Middle East on behalf of the Palestine Exploration Fund.

From 1871 to 1881 he served as Professor of Arabic at Cambridge University. In 1882, while leading a government expedition in the Sinai peninsula, his party was ambushed and killed. His remains were recovered and buried at St Paul's Cathedral in London.
