Primo Vannutelli (1885-1945) was an Italian scholar.

Biography

Primo Vannutelli was born at Genazzano, near Rome [Italy], in 1885.

In 1909 he was ordained a Catholic priest. In 1916 he began his collaboration with the Rivista di scienza delle religioni, directed by Ernesto Buonaiuti, and was involved in the accusation of Modernism.

He submitted to the Church and continued his work as a NT scholar until his death in 1945. His more radical theses on the Historical Jesus were published only posthumously in 1978, in a collection of meditations under the title, Il testamento di fede di don Primo Vannutelli.
