In 36 CE the governor of Syria [[Vitellius]] removed [[Pontius Pilate]] from office and sent "his friend" Marcellus to take care of the affairs in Judea. [[Vitellius]] also deposed the powerful High Priest [[Caiaphas]], and  replaced him with another member of the House of [[Annas]], [[Jonathan ben Ananus|Jonathan]]. In 37 CE, the new Emperor [[Caligula]] appointed [[:Category:Marullus (subject)|Marullus]] as the new Prefect of Judea.
