Claudius was the fourth ruler of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. He reigned from 41 (after [[:Category:Caligula (subject)|Caligula]]) to 54 CE (followed by [[:Category:Nero (subject)|Nero]]).

In Judea Claudius tried to restore the authority of the [[Herodians|Herodian dynasty]]. In 41 CE, he appointed his childhood friend [[Herod Agrippa]] as King of the Jews. Agrippa proved to be a loyal ally of the Emperor. His premature death in 44 CE was a blow for the Roman interests in the region.
