Sabu (1924-1963) -- Child Actor / Actor (India / USA)

The son of an Indian mahout (elephant rider), Sabu was discovered at age 13 by documentary filmmaker Robert Flaherty, who cast him in the role of an elephant driver in the 1937 British film Elephant Boy. For some time Sabu was in high demand in films like The Thief of Bagdad (1940) and Jungle Book (1942).

His acting career declined after World War II, although he occasionally did gain significant parts, such as his supporting role in the British film Black Narcissus (1947).
