John within Judaism

The online colloquium will explore the methodological and conceptual implications of a reading of the Gospel of John "within Judaism," as part of the broader trend of reading the texts of the NT (Paul, Mark, Matthew, Luke) as Second Temple Jewish literature. What does "within Judaism" mean? How does it interact with categories like sectarianism, anti-Judaism and supercessionism, often applied to the same texts? Benjamin Reynolds (chair), Wally Cirafesi and Adele Reinhartz will introduce the discussion among a large panel of specialists, moderated by Gabriele Boccaccini. Joshua Scott is the secretary and technical assistant of the event.

As a rule, speakers at our events are required to be members of the Enoch Seminar. We are not enforcing the rule, but we would like warmly to invite those of you who are not Enoch Seminar members to subscribe for the 2023 membership. The "suggested" fee is $150 Any contribution $20+, however, is welcomed to cover the organizational expenses of our group which relies exclusively on the generosity of its members. Every year we need to collect at least $10,000 to "survive" and run our numerous activities.
