{de} Das Messiasgeheimnis in den Evangelien: zugleich ein Beitrag zum Verständnis des Markusevangeliums (1901) is a book by William Wrede.

Abstract

Wrede demonstrated that the Gospel of Mark also should be considered a work of theology, not history. The "Messianic secret" was created by Mark in order to reduce the tension between early Christian beliefs about Jesus being the Messiah, and the non-Messianic nature of his ministry. It was only after the resurrection, that his followers conceived the idea that Jesus was the Messiah.
