There were two earlier adaptations during the silent era, in 1917 and 1918 respectively; both are lost.
- 1917 -- Little Women, directed by Alexander Butler, starring Mary Lincoln (Meg), Ruby Miller (Jo), Muriel Myers (Beth), and Daisy Burrell (Amy).
- 1918 -- Little Women, directed by Harley Knoles, starring Isabel Lamon (Meg), Dorothy Bernard (Jo), Lillian Hall (Beth), and Florence Flinn (Amy).
The fist TV adaptations were made in the United States, in 1939, 1946, 1949 and 1950 respectively:
