Mouzinho Children.jpg

Two uniformed Portuguese policemen stand on the pier in the port of Lisbon as a group of Jewish refugee children wait in line to board the SS Mouzinho. The young boy just to the right of center in the image, looking back over his right shoulder, is Herman Rosenfeld, born 27 April 1933 in Adelheim, Germany. The young blonde girl standing next to the two police officers is wearing tag #25, can be identified as Lilian Warschawski (or Warszawski), born 20 April 1930 in Belgium.

A group of Jewish refugee children wait in the port of Lisbon to board the SS Mouzinho. On the right side of the photo a young man is wearing a tag clearly legible as #14. This is Guenther Sinasohn born 29 October 1926 in Germany. There was also a Herbert Schwartz (born 16 May 1925) on this transport who may have been Guenther's brother. The young blonde girl on the far left of the image is wearing tag #25, and can be identified as Lilian Warschawski (or Warszawski), born 20 April 1930 in Belgium. In the middle of the photograph the young boy wearing what appears to be ID tag #23 is Oswald Kernberg, born 19 October 1929 in Vienna. Pictured in the back, fourth from the right in profile is Alexander Ssascha Britan. The tall woman smoking a cigarette might be Ursula Gajewska, who was the adult escort on this transport. Ursula was an American citizen, born 1908 in Buffalo, NY, who was fleeing Poland herself.
