Daniele Manin (1804-1857) was an Italian patriot, politician, and scholar. Born into a family of Jewish descent, at the age of 16 published a translation and commentary of the first chapters of 1 Enoch, based on the Greek fragments of George Syncellus. A hero of the Italian Risorgimento, in 1848-49 he was the president of the re-created Republic of San Marco. Spent the rest of his life in exile in Paris, France.
