This work presents the history of Jews religion, its relationship with others religions and peoples, and its particularity. Loisy places the Jews religion in context of the history of religion of ancient Near East. He presents and explains the sources that he uses, i.e., for most part, the biblical books. The history that he exposes is all history of Jews people, since the origins until the 70 CE. His point of view about a formation of biblical books is critic. The period of Second Temple Judaism is exposed only in fifth and sixth chapters. In this chapters Loisy uses also some apocryphal and pseudoepigrapha books, but in very isolated way. He uses above all also the biblical books written in this period to describe the development of religion and the development of messianic idea.
