The Sibyls in literature & the arts
Until the Counter-Reformation, the Sibyls were commonly portrayed in Christian iconography as "pagan" prophets, along with the "Jewish" prophets of the Old Testament. The most famous examples are given by the mosaics in the floor of the Cathedral of Siena and the frescoes by Michelangelo in the vaults of the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
