According to Jewish (Christian and Islamic) traditions, the Ark of the Covenant was a chest built by Moses to contain the Tablets of the Law, and later located in the First Temple.

Ethiopian tradition

According to the Ethiopian tradition preserved in detail in the mediaeval writing Kebra nagast ("The Glory of the kings"), Menelik I brought the Ark into Ethiopia (10th c. BCE). It is believed to be kept in the Chapel of the Tablet in the temenos of the Maryam Tsiyon church at Aksum.
