August Dillmann was a German orientalist and biblical scholar. He began his career at the University of Tübingen studying philosophy, theology and Oriental languages with H.G.A. Ewald. After [[Hiob Ludolf]] he was the first to revive the study of Ethiopic, cataloging manuscripts in Paris, London and Oxford. In 1851 he was appointed associate professor at the University of Tübingen and subsequently taught at the universities of Kiel (1854-1864), Giessen (1864-1869), and finally since 1869 in Berlin. Apart from his work as an Old Testament scholar he made crucial contributions to the rediscovery of OT Jewish pseudepigrapha.

August Dillmann
