Jonathan Maccabeus (2nd century BCE), brother of Judas Maccabeus was a member of the Hasmonean dynasty, and the Jewish High Priest, 153 to 142 BCE. He was succeeded by his brother Simon Maccabeus; see Maccabees.
Overview
In 160 BCE Jonathan succeeded to his brother Judas Maccabeus) as leader of the rebellion against the Greeks. From 153 BCE he was appointed as High Priest, to his death in 142 BCE (followed by his brother Simon Maccabeus).
