An American boy turns out to be the long-lost heir of a British fortune. He is sent to live with the cold and unsentimental lord who oversees the trust. In reality, she is a young lady in disguise.

It is based on the 1925 play of the same title by Ugo Falena. Genina remade the play as a sound film in 1932. A further adaptation The Twentieth Duke was released in 1945.
