Pietro Bachi (1787–1853)
Born in Palermo, Ignazio Batolo, commonly known as Pietro Bachi, was a Sicilian American academic and professor. In 1815 he was involved in an attempt aimed at promoting the claim of Joachim Murat to the throne of the Two Sicilies. As a result, he was forced to escape to England and then (1825) to the United States. He was the first professor from Italy teaching at Harvard University (1826-1846). Died in Boston in 1853.
