Abstract

The source of the Synoptics is a common oral tradition, which "through constant repetition" reached "a fixed form of presentation," first in Aramaic, then in Greek. The Gospels were composed relatively late and not by eyewitnesses. Matthew and Mark came first, followed by Luke.
