After working for a newspaper in Coburg for a year, moved to the University of Altdorf as professor of German history and Latin poetry and then in 1752 returned to Halle where he taught until his death.

Johann Salomo Semler

Johann Salomo Semler (1725-1791) was a German scholar. Born at Saalfeld, graduated in 1759 from the University of Halle. After working for a newspaper in Coburg for a year, moved to the University of Altdorf as professor of German history and Latin poetry and then in 1752 returned to Halle where he taught until his death.
