In 1942, the family fled to Hungary to avoid persecution. in 1944 Irving was deported with his brother and grandparents to [[Auschwitz]]. He was liberated in April 1945 while imprisoned at [[Buchenwald]]. After the war he was reunited to his parents who had survived in hiding. They emigrated in 1951 to the United States. In 2004 he published a memoir dedicate to the memory of his younger brother who perished in the camps.
