Ecce Homo is an event in the Trial of Jesus before Pilate, when Jesus was presented by Pilate to the crowd after the Flagellation. Very similar to the iconography of the Ecce Homo is that of the Man of Sorrow, where however the figure of the suffering Jesus is completely removed and isolated from his "narrative" context and offered to the veneration of the believers.

The Man of Sorrow
Man of Sorrow is a devotional portrait of Jesus as a suffering man during his Passion. The iconography is very similar to that of the Ecce Homo, where Jesus is presented by Pilate to the crowd during the Trial of Jesus before Pilate. The figure of the Man of Sorrow however is completely removed and isolated from his "narrative" context and offered to the veneration of the believers. Only occasionally the representation as Jesus as the Man of Sorrow is accompanied by angels or saints.
