Arthur Jeffery (1892-1959) was an Australian scholar, active in Egypt and the United States. Arthur Jeffery was born October 18, 1892 in Melbourne, Australia. Educated in Australia and Scotland, had his first teaching appointments in India and from 1921, at the School of Oriental Studies in Cairo as professor of Semitic languages. In 1938 he moved to the United Stated, where until his death he taught jointly at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Jeffery died August 2, 1959 in South Milford, Nova Scotia, Canada.
