John Dominic Crossan (b.1934) is an Irish American scholar.

Biography

Born in Nenagh Co., Tipperary, Ireland in 1934. Doctorate of Divinity from Maynooth College, Ireland, 1959. Post-doctoral research at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome (1959-1961) and at the École Biblique, Jerusalem (1965-1967). Was an ordained Catholic priest, order of the Servites (1957-1969). Taught at DePaul University, Chicago, since 1969, Professor Emeritus since 1995. A specialist in the field of Historical Jesus studies, co-founder and co-chair of the Jesus Seminar (1985-1996). President, Society of Biblical Literature, 2011-2012
