Josep Montserrat Torrents (also José Montserrat Torrents, 1932-) is a Spanish scholar.

Biography

Born in Barcelona in 1932. He successively studied Patrology at the University of Münster, theology at the Gregorian University in Rome, and religous sciences at the University of Paris. He also joined the Catholic church between 1958 and 1968. Since 1972 he has taught history of philosophy at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. He has extensively written on Church history, early Christianity, nascent Gnosticism, and Gnostic literature, and translated several works by Philo into Catalan.
