Bethlehem (modern Bethlehem, West Bank) was a village in Judea.

Overview

Bethlehem was a small village in Judea near Jerusalem.

For theological reasons (as it was believed that the Messiah Son of David would come from Bethlehem), the Gospels of Matthew and Luke made Bethlehem the birthplace of Jesus of Nazareth.

During the Bar-Kokhba revolt, Bethlehem was occupied by the Romans and its Jewish occupants expelled.
