The Wild Girl [aka The Secret Gospel of Mary Magdalene] (1984) is a novel by Michèle Roberts.

Abstract

Describes a secret gospel written by Mary Magdalene who, after the crucifixion of Jesus, preaches a new faith based upon male and female equality, but whose message is rejected by Simon Peter and other disciples, who teach their own gospel.

Editions and translations

First published in London in 1984, was translated into German in 1986 and then reissued in 2007 under the title, The Secret Gospel of Mary Magadalene.
