Alvar Ellegård (1919-2008) was a Swedish author.

Biography

Alvar Ellegård was born in Gothenburg, Sweden on November 12, 1919.

He was a scholar and linguist, professor of English at the University of Gothenburg (1953-84), and a member of the academic board of the Swedish National Encyclopedia.

After his retirement, he devoted himself to the study of the figure of Jesus.

Alvar Ellegård died on February 8, 2008 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Works on Second Temple Judaism

Alvar Ellegård was a proponent of a variant of the Jesus Myth Theory, which derived the figure of Jesus from the Essene Teacher of Righteousness.
