Joseph Derenbourg (1811-1895) was a Jewish-French scholar.

Biography

Jewish scholar, orientalist. Professor of Hebrew language and literature at Ecole des Hautes Etudes. Made major contribution in oriental languages and inscriptions. Catalogues Hebrew mss. at Bibliothèque Nationale. Active in Jewish community.
