William H. Brownlee (1917-1983) was a American scholar.
Biography
As a junior Fellow at the American Schools of Oriental Research in Jerusalem in 1948, Brownlee was among the very first scholars to assess the antiquity and importance of the Dead Sea Scrolls and to publish on the subject. Professor of Religion at Claremont Graduate School and Director of the Institute’s Dead Sea Scrolls Project.
