Antonio Demo (1870-1936) -- Catholic Priest
Born in Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza, Italy), Antonio Demo was a Catholic priest and missionary to the United States who was prominent in the Italian American community. He joined the Scalabrinians in 1894 and two years later moved to the United States. After two years in Boston, in 1899 he settled in New York City at the Church of Our Lady of Pompeii Church, succeeding to Pietro Bandini and Francesco Zaboglio. He also collaborated with the Saint Raphael Society for the Protection of Italian Immigrants. When he died in 1936, Fiorello LaGuardia attended his funeral.
