Italo Dell'Oro (1953) -- Catholic Bishop (Auxiliary Galveston-Houston, 2021-)

Born in Malgrate (Lecce, Italy), Dell'Oro was ordained a priest in 1982. Three years after his ordination, he came to the United States to work as a priest assistant at Pine Haven Boys Center in Allenstown, New Hampshire, a school for troubled children operated by the Somascan Fathers. In 1992, Dell'Oro was transferred to Houston,Texas. In 2021 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Galveston-Houston (2021-). He is the fourth Italian-born American Bishop after Joseph Rosati (St. Louis, 1827-1843), Ignatius Persico (Savannah, 1870-1872), and Joseph Maria Pernicone (auxiliary New York).
