Anthedon / Agrippias was a city on the Mediterranean coast.
Overview
Located north of Gaza, Anthedon was founded in Hellenist times. It was then conquered at the beginning of the first century BCE by Alexander Jannaeus and included in the Hasmonean Kingdom, from which it was separated by the Roman conquest by Pompey in 63 BCE. Gabinius rebuilt the city. Augustus gave it to Herod the Great, who restored it and renamed it Agrippias in honor of M. Agrippa. In the partition of Herod's kingdom Anthedon followed probably the some lot as Joppa and Caesarea Maritima, being assigned to Archelaus.
During the Jewish War, Anthedon was attacked and partly destroyed by the rebels.
