- KEYWORDS : Hidden Children -- Jewish Rescuers (Walter Süskind, Henriette Pimentel, Raphael Halverstad, Betty Goudsmit-Oudkerk) -- Non-Jewish Rescuers (Johan van Hulst)
Overview
The Hollandsche Schouwburg was a Jewish Theater in Amsterdam, Netherlands, that was used in 1943 as a deportation center during the Holocaust. Children were separated from their parents and hosted in a nursery across the street. With the help of Johan van Hulst and the Dutch Resistance, around 600 children were smuggled outside the nursery and hid in foster families until liberation.
Today, the Hollandse Schouwberg is a Holocaust museum.
