After the Gospels were translated into Chinese in the 19th century, the works on Jesus written in Chinese for a long time were mainly theological works aimed to missionary purposes. The category: Historical Jesus Studies--Chinese, includes (in chronological order) scholarly and fictional works in Chinese language dealing with Historical Jesus Studies.

Notes

After the Gospels were translated into Chinese in the 19th century, the works on Jesus written in Chinese for a long time were mainly theological works aimed to missionary purposes. The situation changed radically in the late 1990s when some of the classics of the Historical Jesus Research began to be translated in Chinese (Renan, Schweitzer) along with some of the most influential contemporary books (Crossan, Ehrman, Wright).

In the 2000s, the international success of The Da Vince Code (translated in Chinese in 2004) generated a lot of interest and controversies and a flow of publications and favored the translation of other influential scholarly texts (Dunn).

The interest has continued in the 2010s with the publication of works by Ehrman and Borg.
