Meir (Majer) Balaban (1874-1942) was a Jewish-Polish scholar.

Biography

Studied law, philosophy and history at Lviv University. The father of Polish Jewish historiography, published first histories of Jews in Lviv (1916), Lublin (1916), and Cracow (1931). With Moses Schorr and others, was one of the founders of the Institute of Jewish Sciences in Warsaw. Wrote some essays on Second Temple Jewish history. Died in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust.
