Alvar Ellegård (1919-2008) was a Swedish scholar. Born in Gothenburg, Sweden on November 12, 1919. He was a scholar and linguist, professor of English at the University of Gothenburg (1953-84), and a member of the academic board of the Swedish National Encyclopedia. After his retirement, he devoted himself to the study of the figure of Jesus. Was a proponent of a variant of the Jesus Myth Theory, which derived the figure of Jesus from the Essene Teacher of Righteousness. Died on February 8, 2008 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
