Salome (1972) is a Vienna production and sound recording of Salome (1905 Strauss / Lachmann), opera, conducted by Karl Böhm.
Abstract
Recording of a performance at the Vienna State Opera (22 December 1972).
"Leonie Rysanek ... conceived the part [of Salome] as an irreversible crescendo of neurosis and hysteria ... Rysanek left two riveting live recordings. The first, from 1972, is heard to best advantage in RCA's Wiener Staatsoper Live series. It features another strong Jochanaan from Wächter and authoritative conducting by Karl Böhm."--Gramophone.
Cast
- Leonie Rysanek = Salome
- Eberhard Wächter = John the Baptist
